We have identified ten phrases to describe “Richmond” for this year’s Contest:

Submit your best, most colourful, high resolution digital (DSLR) or “Smartphonephotos, in portrait (vertical) orientation! Landscape (horizontal) images can’t be used for banner designs. See our FAQ page for tips about how to choose, save, and prepare the right photo(s) for your submission.

Photographic entries must be images created in Richmond, BC only. All non-Richmond images will be removed from the contest and will be ineligible for judging. 

note: The City of Richmond may disqualify banner submissions that may, in the opinion of the city of richmond, infringe on applicable intellectual property (copyright) laws.

Want to create digital artwork illustrating the Contest themes? Go for it!
We want to see your digital illustrations, mixed media and graphic art entries, but please remember that all artwork should be reflect the contest themes for Richmond, created at minimum 300dpi and measure 8” x 20” to match the finished banner proportions.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Without limitations, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications including adobe generative fill, Midjourney, Firefly, etc. to create banner contest submissions is strictly prohibited.

If your entry is suspected as being created with an AI application, you must be able to provide raw digital files for verification of authenticity upon request. Failure to comply will result in contest disqualification.

Do you work in traditional collage, watercolour, acrylic or print making mediums? We want to see your original art entries! Please remember that all finished works should be reflective of the 2023/24 Richmond themes and measure 8” x 20” to match the finished banner proportions.

Note: We are not accepting “dropped off” original artwork submissions. Please photograph and upload your submission online only. If your artwork is selected as a final banner design, we will contact you to arrange drop-off of the original artwork for high resolution scanning.

 

Banner Selection:

  • Contestant may submit up to 10 entries.

  • Deadline for entry is September 10th, 2023 at 11:59pm PST

  • Up to 20 designs will be chosen as semi-finalists by a panel of community judges.

  • All semi-final designs will be posted online at www.letstalkrichmond.ca and will be voted on by the public. The top 10 designs with the most votes will become this year’s winners.

  • The 10 winning designs will be selected for display on street banners from March 2024 to March 2025.

  • A $300 honorarium will be awarded for each of the selected designs.

  • The artist retains sole copyright to his/her artwork. The City of Richmond will have unlimited reproduction rights to all contest submissions.

  • City of Richmond employees and family members are ineligible for this contest.
