We have identified ten themes to describe “Richmond” for this year’s Contest:

Culture & Heritage • The Arts • Sustainability

We’re looking for vibrant, high-resolution images captured with either a DSLR or smartphone. Please ensure your photos are in portrait (vertical) orientationlandscape (horizontal) images are not eligible for banner designs.

Photographic entries must be images created in Richmond, BC only. All non-Richmond images will be removed from the contest and will be ineligible for judging. 

note: The City of Richmond may disqualify banner submissions that may, in the opinion of the city of richmond, infringe on applicable intellectual property (copyright) laws.

IMPORTANT! Without limitations, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications including adobe generative fill, Midjourney, Firefly, etc. to create banner contest submissions is strictly prohibited.

Want to illustrate the contest themes through digital art? Go for it! We welcome digital illustrations, mixed media, and graphic art entries—just make sure your artwork:

  • Clearly reflects the contest themes for Richmond

  • Is created at a minimum of 300 dpi

  • Measures exactly 8” x 20” to match the final banner dimensions. Please note: All artwork that does not meet the 8”x20” proportions, will be cropped to meet banner fabrication requirements.

Let your creativity shine—just keep it on theme and banner-ready!

IMPORTANT! Without limitations, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications including adobe generative fill, Midjourney, Firefly, etc. to create banner contest submissions is strictly prohibited.

If your entry is suspected as being created with an AI application, you must be able to provide raw digital files for verification of authenticity upon request. Failure to comply will result in contest disqualification.

Traditional Artists Welcome! Do you work in collage, watercolour, acrylic, or printmaking? We want to see your original artwork! Just be sure your piece:

  • Reflects the contest themes for Richmond

  • Measures exactly 8” x 20” to match the final banner dimensions. Please note: All artwork that does not meet the 8”x20” proportions, will be cropped to meet banner fabrication requirements.

  • We are not accepting in-person drop-offs of original artwork. All entries must be photographed and submitted online. If your piece is selected as a final banner design, we’ll contact you directly to arrange drop-off of the original artworkfor high-resolution scanning.

Banner Selection Process:

Submission Guidelines & Prizes

  • Each contestant may submit up to 10 entries through our www.letstalkrichmond.ca entry form portal

  • Deadline: September 21, 2025 at 11:59 PM (PST)

Selection Process

  • A panel of community judges will select up to 20 semi-finalists (two per theme).

  • Semi-final designs will be posted at www.letstalkrichmond.ca for public voting.

  • The top 10 designs (one per theme) with the most votes will be selected as this year’s winners.

Winning Designs

  • Winning banners will be displayed citywide from March 2026 to March 2027.

  • Each selected design will receive a $300 honorarium.

Copyright & Usage

  • Artists retain full copyright to their work.

  • The City of Richmond reserves unlimited reproduction rights for all contest submissions.

City of Richmond employees and family members are ineligible for this contest.
